These stats will highlight the impact of Typhoon Morakot.
Life:
- Taiwan: 103 killed, 35 injured, 800+ missing, 750,000 without clean water. 3.9 million chickens and 82,630 pigs are also thought to have perished in the floods.
- Philippines: 24 individuals are reported dead
- China: 1.4 million people were relocated, 9 million people were impacted, 6 people were killed and 3 are missing
Economic:
- 6,000 houses and 387,300 hectares of farmland were destroyed in China with a direct economic loss of $1.3 billion
- Agricultural losses from Typhoon Morakot had soared to NT$4.2 billion (US$128 million) as of Sunday night
- 25 percent of the crops on 20, 432 hectares of farmland were lost. Banana crops suffered the heaviest damage, with 3.218 hectares ravaged by strong winds and flooding.
- NT$343.13 million worth of poultry perished in floods caused by the storm
- Losses in the aquaculture sector totaled NT$206.712 million, with at least 107 hectares of fish farms in Pingtung County’s Jiadong and Gaoshu townships damaged
- Damage to agricultural facilities amounted to NT$107.51 million
- Damage to forestry was estimated at NT$10.63 million
